While working for corporate America as a business development manager, I hurt my back and neck shoveling my car out of a snow bank during one of our famous Michigan winters. After several months of physical therapy and exercise, I had finally received medical clearance to go back to work, only to find out that my job had been given away to another manager just a few days before. I was shocked and devastated! I knew that I still needed a way to help out our family financially. My husband, a teacher, (definitely not bringing in the big bucks) and our five daughters inspired me to start my own business venture which has now truly become my passion.
Becoming a Travel Designer
I knew that I enjoyed sales from my corporate background, but I also loved to travel and visit new places, so I decided to become a travel designer.
When I first founded Paradise Getaways, my focus was on tropical getaways to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. Why? Because they defined paradise to me. I mean, who wouldn't want to relax on a beautiful white sand beach, swim in crystal blue water and be served cocktails - right? Travel is something that creates lasting memories and I was excited to help people experience their travel dreams. Plus, the idea of me being able to travel with my family was also really enticing!! Can you blame me?
How It All Began
As I began to search for my area of expertise, my husband (and most amazing business partner) found an opening for us to market our services through a local bridal store. I was able to go to their events and be in the store to assist brides with their honeymoon planning. I discovered a few things in doing this - First, I loved working with the brides to be! They were so happy and just so excited to be getting married and since I loved being married to my wonderful husband, I instantly connected with them. Second, they were overwhelmed with a busy schedule. Between work, their social life and planning a wedding, they were maxed out. It was apparent to me that they needed someone trustworthy who would give them honest advice and guidance to make this portion of all their wedding planning a little easier, not so time consuming, simplified and actually fun! I realized that helping brides and grooms design their all inclusive destination wedding and all inclusive honeymoon was truly my passion!
