Jessica and Polo celebrated their destination wedding with 55 of their closest family and friends, at the Hard Rock Resort and Spa in the beautiful Riviera Maya Mexico. Jessica and Polo’s destination wedding took 4 years of planning and managing, between two different families and countries, to finally bring together their destination wedding in paradise.
How It All Started: A Match Made in Hong Kong
Jessica and Polo were studying abroad in Hong Kong and even though Jessica was studying engineering, and Polo business, the two had mutual friends. One divinely appointed night out with friends, Polo and Jessica ended up Salsa dancing with each other, and the rest you could say is history.
Ten Months later, while on a special trip to Mexico, Polo invited Jessica to a very special dinner. After dinner was over, Jessica and Polo were walking outside and Polo asked her to marry him. In Jessica’s words: “To which I said Yes!”

Why A Destination Wedding?
Polo and Jessica actually decided to have a small civil ceremony in 2010 in Jessica’s hometown in Minnesota with just immediate family present. It actually took 4 more years to have the Public Celebration of their wedding in Mexico
. Jessica says: “We knew people would need to travel for the wedding no matter where we had (especially our immediate family) so I wanted to have a wedding that could also be a really enjoyable vacation for everyone as well.”
The Planning Process Begins
Once Jessica and Polo decided on having a destination wedding in Mexico, they contacted several local wedding planners in Mexico as well as scouring numerous resorts for resources that would help them figure out how to plan their destination wedding. They soon realized that planning a destination wedding was just as taxing , if not more as planning a wedding locally.
Much Needed Help
Jessica and Polo searched for help, and came across Tami Santini, a destination wedding designer. They checked out her website, and decided contact her. While consulting with Tami, she pointed Jessica and Polo in the directions that they should consider and they quickly narrowed down their most important requirements to a few choice resorts. They were able to finalize the date of their wedding and they of course decided on the Hard Rock Riviera Maya for their resort. Tami got them in touch with the on site wedding coordinators, and Jessica and Polo’s destination wedding vision was born.
Hard Rock Riviera Maya
The Wedding Theme:
The Hard Rock Riviera Maya, offers wedding themes created by famous Bridal designer Colin Cowie. However The Hard Rock also allows you to fully customize your wedding theme as well. Jessica and Polo decided to create their own wedding theme that would make Colin Cowie jealous! In Jessica ‘s words: “We chose bright corals and pinks in a monochrome palate with gold accents to compliment. We used gold tiffany chairs and pink coral satin table clothes against the ocean as a backdrop.” It was amazing!!! I think Colin Cowie should hire them to be on his team.
Jessica and Polo chose a combination of lilies, roses, daisies, etc all in the same palate.
Jessica's Wedding Dress:
In Jessica's Words: "The dress was from Mia Bridal Couture in Houston, TX
. I chose a Paloma Blanca straples gown. The skirt flowed beautifully and felt perfect to mimic the breezy Riviera Maya. I accessorized with an spanish lace [jacket] - ( i can't remember the formal name for these!!) for the ceremony and then switched to an Untamed petals belt for the reception."
A Ceremony Highlight: Everything!!
The Ceremony was a culmination of everything she had envisioned for her wedding day. Jessica says. “We waited so long to have a wedding with friends, family, and God at the center of our marriage, it was an incredible experience to have that moment, just for us, with all kinds of love and support around us".
The Reception: Let the Celebration Begin
Jessica and Polo enjoyed an outdoor reception under the stars, as they celebrated their perfect day into the night with their family and friends. Jessica says one of her favorite memories of her reception was her father “ making an amazing speech which still generates laughs to this day!” Beyond that, Jessica said. “Seeing everyone have an amazing time together-family, friends, was really great to experience!”
Jessica and Polo’s Greatest Memory:
Jessica’s favorite memory was “feeling so, so grateful for the opportunity to create a weekend that brought all of the most special people in our lives together and allowed them to experience the beauty and fun Mexico has to offer. It isn’t often you see your mom at a foam pool party or your more serious friends let loose and swim with dolphins. You can’t beat that!”
That is what makes destination weddings so special.
